The New Auld Lang Syne

By Linda McDaniel Smith

(Sing these new lyrics to the old tune of Auld Lang Syne. The title words mean the equivalent of long time ago, or long, long ago.)

Should we meet at Starbucks, friend?
If not, then never mind.
I sure would like a Frappe, though,
But not for auld lang syne.

In auld lang syne, my friend.
In auld lang syne.
A coffee then was just a joe,
And only cost a dime.

But now at tables round we sit,
And speak of fiscal clime,
Then take a seven dollar hit,
But not for auld lang syne.

In auld lang syne, old friend.
In auld lang syne.
We’d meet for lunch for what it costs
Now to sip to auld lang syne.

So here’s my hand, my trusty friend.
And give a hand of thine.
And we’ll just meet at the Handy Pack.
We’re too broke for auld lang syne.
